Yes, it is imperative to modify your dietary habits to achieve weight loss. Consuming high-sugar beverages, excessive alcohol, fast food, pastries, rice, pasta, and potatoes frequently can impede your weight loss goals.

A reduced-calorie, high-protein, low-carb diet is recommended to facilitate weight loss effectively.

Low-carb diets are particularly effective for weight loss as they prioritize protein, which is highly satiating, satisfying, and helps stave off hunger.

Consider adhering to The Rules of Ten for Fullness: Opt for foods and beverages containing more than 10 grams of protein and less than 10 grams of sugar or net carbs, or with a Glycemic Index of less than 55 percent to promote fullness and curb hunger.

Alternatively, you may adopt The Rule of Halves: Consume half the portion size of any food you desire.

How Much Weight Can I Expect to Lose?

On average, individuals can anticipate losing 15 to 25% of their initial weight. Weight loss typically commences within 5-10 days following the first injection, with an initial loss of 10 to 15 lbs. in the first month being common.

When embarking on a weight loss journey, it is crucial to address the two primary obstacles to maintaining a sustainable diet: hunger and cravings.

Hunger vs. Cravings: What's the Difference?

Hunger is a physiological response characterized by stomach rumbling, accompanied by lethargy, weakness, and thoughts of food, which arises after several hours without eating.

Cravings, on the other hand, are intense, irrational desires for specific foods that can occur even when one is not hungry. Cravings are psychological impulses rather than physiological needs.

Can Cravings be Managed?

In some individuals, cravings for sweets, salty foods, and alcohol diminish within the first few days, and for others, within ten days.

"Food noise," or the constant preoccupation with eating, is significantly reduced in nearly all individuals on this program, often within a few days of initiation.

What Should I Do When I Reach My Goal Weight?

The likelihood of regaining lost weight after weight loss is high, around 80%, despite diligent efforts such as daily exercise and careful food intake.

It is generally recommended to continue the injections for an extended period, with the frequency potentially reduced to once or twice a month for maintenance.

Who is Eligible for These Medications?

The decision to commence a weight loss medication regimen is highly individualized.

As we are aware, losing weight is a complex process, and if dietary and exercise modifications are insufficient, the use of weight loss medications, both on and off-label, may be considered.

Currently, on-label use of weight loss medications by the U.S. FDA requires a body mass index (BMI) greater than 30 or a BMI of 27 or more with other associated health issues, such as hypertension, high cholesterol, heart disease, or diabetes.

Tirzepatide, for instance, delays gastric emptying, potentially affecting the absorption of concurrently administered oral medications. Therefore, caution and awareness are advised.

Patients using oral hormonal contraceptives should switch to a non-oral contraceptive method or add a barrier method of contraception.

This is recommended for four weeks after initiating Tirzepatide and for four weeks after a dose increase if necessary.

Non-oral hormonal contraceptives should not be impacted.

For individuals attempting to conceive, it is necessary to discontinue this medication at least two months before planning to become pregnant.

Lastly, none of the previously mentioned medications are approved for use in individuals under 18 years of age.
